Good luck

MEANING: "Good luck"

EXPLANATION: The idiom has its origin in the world of theater. Actors had a superstition that saying “good luck” would actually bring them bad luck, so “break a leg” was used instead. It is similar to the Italian "In bocca al lupo".

EXAMPLE: "Break a leg!" the stage director shouted to the actors before their performance.
